Sharpen Your Funny Bone

« back to classes page
CourseGraphic "Whatever or whoever you are, there's one very enjoyable step you can take, right now – or at least, fairly soon – to make yourself a better writer: Take a course in humor writing.” – Siobhan Adcock, “Why Every Writer Should Take a Humor Writing Class”, Huffington Post

In this five-week course, you’ll learn about ways you can hone your sense of humor in your writing and why that can be beneficial to writers in many genres. You’ll read forms of humorous writing (including satire, essays/creative nonfiction, short stories, and excerpts from novels). You’ll analyze what makes something funny and explore how you can incorporate more humor into your writing.

The course will include assigned reading as well as writing exercises in various formats. You’ll learn about techniques to generate funny ideas, how to punch up your writing with more wit and humor, and why funny writing matters.
