Intermediate 2.0: Novel and Memoir Workshop

« back to classes page
CourseGraphic There is an “in between” stage for most book writers. You’re not quite done, but you know your book—its heart, its plot, and what you think its ending will be. In Intermediate 2.0, you will take a leap forward, finishing the semester with an in-depth critique of your book plan and  synopsis, as well as feedback on 50 full pages of your book.

Think of this class as Intermediate on steroids. Limited to 8 students, Intermediate 2.0 is a beneficial stopping off point before you finish your book. It’s a chance to get important feedback to help you complete your work. Each week you will need to read a 50-page portion of a fellow student’s book before our class convenes. Weekly workshops will include:

  • Craft talks covering topics such as Beginnings, Endings, Character Arcs, Dialogue, Plot, Setting, Revision
  • A presentation by one student to include a brief synopsis, a reading from the book, and a class discussion about the student’s 50 pages
If you have been longing for feedback and supportive help to finish your book, this class is for you. Students and the instructor will assist you in  ?moving ahead toward to a full draft ready to present to agents and publishers.

June 1st to August 3rd, 2023

Testimonials

Barbara has given me a skill set and a fresh perspective on how to approach writing and editing. She has an uncanny ability to spot the direction a character needs to take or how to make a beat hit, and her character advice is second to none. Her classes have given me the courage to work past failed drafts, and keep pushing that pen until I have something better on the page.

The class was surprising, so fun and still so engaging. This instructor makes any class room, physical or virtual, feel so inspiring!

Barbara Josselsohn is a wonderful instructor and very pleasant and generous with her time and knowledge. She gets at the pulse of the piece and understands, as a writer, how to be effective.

I'm really grateful for the constructive criticism and feedback as well as the lessons on craft. This class cured my writer's block and I will take more. THANK you!

Loved Barbara and her class teaching and management style!
