In My Body: Writing Disability, Chronic Illness, and Pain
A one-day workshop. Do you want to write the story of your body? Do you feel like your body (mind, spirit) is either under-represented or not represented in the narratives of our culture? Are you feeling stuck or struggling with where to begin?
In this one day intensive, we will explore our unique experiences of living in disabled, chronically ill, or otherwise ailing bodies. We will write to prompts designed to jumpstart our own personal essays and memoirs. As inspiration, we will read excerpts by contemporary writers like Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Sonya Huber, and Urvashi Bahuguna who centre the body (mind, spirit) in their own work. You will come away with fresh starts, pages of new writing, loads of ideas and resources, and engaged feedback in a supportive group.

Who should take this class?
This course is for folks who self-identify as disabled/chronically ill and want to write about their bodies (minds, spirits). All disabilities, illnesses, and conditions are valid and welcome in this course. All levels are welcome: seasoned writers as well as beginners.
