Sharpen Your Funny Bone
Sharpen Your Funny Bone
A 5-week genre fiction course. "Whatever or whoever you are, there's one very enjoyable step you can take, right now – or at least, fairly soon – to make yourself a better writer: Take a course in humor writing.” – Siobhan Adcock, “Why Every Writer Should Take a Humor Writing Class” Huffington Post
In this course, you’ll learn about ways you can hone your sense of humor in your writing and why that can be beneficial to writers in many genres. You’ll read forms of humorous writing (including satire, essays/creative nonfiction, short stories, and excerpts from novels). You’ll analyze what makes something funny and explore how you can incorporate more humor into your writing.
The course will include assigned reading as well as writing exercises in various formats. You’ll learn about techniques to generate funny ideas, how to punch up your writing with more wit and humor, and why funny writing matters.
April 9 to May 7, 2024
Tuesdays, 1:00pm to 3:00pm EST, O
n Campus
Who Should Take This Class?
Anyone who is interested in incorporating humorous elements into their writing.
Testimonials
“This class was wonderful. Janine really knows the world of humor writing and publishing.”
“Your humor writing class was the best part of 2021! The class was so inspiring. I have been focusing on writing short humor pieces using everything I learned from your class, with the goal of submitting something. My first two pieces got rejected, but my next two got published after one rewrite. Thank you for your knowledge and inspiration!”
“Since taking your writing seminar, I am still at it after writing about 70 essays. I am enjoying it and want to compliment you for giving me the confidence to start writing for publication. As my skills improved, I felt empowered to go public with my writing.”
